L1aux Production Testing Log

This will be obsolete once all boards are at FNAL and entered in the equipment database

Testing log

Notes on work done each day, include name and date

8/31/99 - Pedro
10+18 =28 Aux cards arrived.
1 Board tested OK with FSA 0,1,2,6, Aux out and in again, and again FSA 0,1,2,6.
I think on testing Aux cards, one should do the fullspeed tests, take Aux out and back in and repeat it. This is because the P3 connector is potentially the more flaky part of it...
I am using Production P001, to test the aux card....(No particular reason other than having a front panel on it)

9/2/99 Tuan has been testing all 30 of the cards we have here now. He is running FSA0,1,2,6 once. Since the discovery that many of the P3 pins are bent or shortened, Mark visually inspected them all and the results are below. The preproduction boards, which will be used as production are now confused with prototypes - does anyone know how to separate them? Why does Pedro say 28 boards above?
(Pedro: 28 was the number that Jo Ann gave me. I did not counted them myself, so 30 it should be.
)
passed teststand failed teststand
failed visual insp. 10 7
passed visual insp. 8 5
9/9/99 received 14 more aux cards. Mircea is pressing the connectors these will be numbers 31-44. These were made in a run different from the previous cards, but the same as the remaining 50 cards so they will be a indication of the majority of the cards. So I (Ray) was going to test some of these cards. The first few loops of the test went fine then I started getting errors that looked like the usual TSCR errors. After that I couldn't get it working again. Currently I am getting three cases DAQ errors and FIFOs read out constants, no DAQ erros and FIFOs read out constants, and FIFOs contain the wrong data for a couple of events out of 4000. The last case is probably essentially working, but maybe a delay needs to be adjusted. No DAQ errors with FIFO errors would be the normal TSCR failure. I don't understand why I would ever get DAQ errors. (I am now using a proven preprod aux card.) I scoped the TSCR FIFO to see the clock acting up and maybe to check if the delay was reasonable. I was suprised to see that when the TSCR FIFO reads out a constant number, that is actually what is on the FIFO input when the write clock is on. That means that in these cases the problem is not TSCR, unless it is turning on its clock at the wrong time. Pedro - worked the crate for a while, swapping boards around and the problem eventually went away. (The boards swapped were Testclock and the TSCR). Teststand is now working reliably in the original configuration.

9/10/99 - Ray testing more aux cards, number 32-44, all came out good.
passed teststand failed teststand
failed visual insp. 13 7
passed visual insp. 19 5

9/14/99 received 50 more aux cards, these should be 45-94. Mark is pressing connectors.
Pedro - Found that on many of the cards there is solder in the J1,J3,J5,J6,J8,J10 connectors. This causes the cables not to grip properly around the connectors. Many of the boards previously tested fail this (new) visual inspection. Note that on this 2nd batch, that starts with board P031 below, already the very first one (P031) had this problem.
Mark worked on a few boards (5 or 6) and successfully sucked the solder out of the connectors.
All in all, 18 boards were tested OK, both FullSpeed tests and the connector tests. See below on each board status. Did NOT updated the full count.

9/15/99 - Ray and Mircea - we are trying to straighten out the serial number situation. We have a list of 32 good cards we are keeping. 24 have serial numbers, 8 don't. Some returned cards had their serial numbers erased, some didn't, some were never given a serial number. Mircea says we have received a total of 110. (paper records actually say 108 but we are counting 110) The 8 currently blank cards will be given numbers 101 to 108 which should not have ever been written on a card. After that, all cards that are not part of the 32 we are keeping will be labeled "returned - may or may not come back with a serial number" When they do come back we need to log all the ones with serial numbers to determine how to number the ones without.

10/3/99 - Ray
Web pages including this one were lost due to disk failure. I don't think there were many notes lost, if any.

10/3/99 - Ray
Mircea says another 10 aux acards that we have not seen before are here and Mark will install P3. The 78 repaired ones should be here anytime.

10/13/99 - Ray
Reviewing serial numbers - all updated now. Since some of the boards are returning without serial numbers and since we don't have the full number of boards returned, we are forced to start reusing some serial numbers. This means that some boards when they come back may have a serial number on them which is currently on another board. When this happens, we should note the original number and renumber the board. So far only 91-98 are reused.

10/19/99 - Henry took 69 and 106 to FNAL for cable installation

10/25/99 - Ray took two more 107 and 108 to FNAL for cable pulling.

10/27/99 Can't find 69 and 106 at FNAL, if you see these let me know - Ray. Also found Pedro brought 123 out here for his tests.

10/29/99 - Peter: 25 returned cards were reviewed. Of these 14 had serial numbers. Serial numbers 84-90, 99, 100, 109, and 110 were reused for the boards without numbers.

10/30/99 - Boards 69 and 106 were found and are now at FNAL in the trigger room.

11/01/99 - Ray took 111 and 116 to FNAL for B0 tests.

11/04/99 - Peter: 25 returned cards were reviewed. Of these 8 had serial numbers. Serial numbers 57-62, 65, 66, 70-72, 77, and 79-83 were reused for the boards without numbers.
In addition, three cards failed a visual inspection and will be returned to Promex.

11/8/99 - Ray looked over the serial number situation. It looks great - thanks Peter. We have the full production run here - updated totals below. Numbers 48-51 are currently unused and will eventually be assigned to the preproduction boards. Also the teststand is working with two old admems.

11/8/99 - Peter: There are intermittent, nonreproducible failures on ETSUM with the test setup. When one occurs, running through the test again clears the problem up. (Sample error file in blue:/home/pamaral/l1cal/v3_0/log/test0/error.log0.etsum)

11/16/99 - Ray
57 aux cards packaged to be taken to FNAL for installation all are noted below

11/17/99 -Ray
checking the 5 broken aux cards, counting bits from 0:
#88 bit 4 of channel 3 stuck on
#57 bit 9 of channel 10 stuck on, bit 1 of channel 11 flaky
#32 tests OK now
#26 bit 1 of channel 2 stuck off, bit 5 of channel 2 stuck on
#98 tests OK now
#57 was repaired.
Mircea has 88 and 26 to work on them and he is sending back 41, 11, and 3 which had bad connectors.

11/17/99 - Ray - put numbers 48-51 on the preproduction boards and put on production front panels.

11/17/99 - Ray 39 more boards packaged for installation at FNAL, all noted below. So overall there should be 103 aux at FNAL.

11/19/99 - #9 returned to here because it was labeled bad. It tests OK so I put it back in the good pile.

11/30/99 - #s 3, 11, 41 test OK.
